Ashtanga Vinyasa Classes
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method is a traditional form of yoga, a systematic sequence of flowing postures linked together with the breath. If you like a strong yoga class then you should find this challenging and rewarding. This class is characterised by the sound of Ujjayi breathing – a powerful, rhythmic, “heating” breath. Intended to be a daily practice this powerful, healing practice is a specific sequence of postures (asanas) linking breath (pranayama) and movement (vinyasa.) Ashtanga is an athletic flow combining strength, flexibility and stamina for a complete practice & there are two ways you can learn Ashtanga Yoga at the Yoga Loft.
Ashtanga Yoga - Led style class - the teacher will lead you through the sequence of poses, supporting you to move and breath in the right places and adjusting you physically and verbally where necessary to assure the correct alignment.
Ashtanga Yoga - Assisted Self Practice class - Learning to practice yoga in this ways offers more focus, space and personal support from the teacher. In this small group setting student can arrive any time during 2 hour time slot depending on students ability and length of their practice. The focus in this traditional way of teaching is on the individual practitioner and their differing needs, offering tailored modifications to safely open the body with hands on adjustments if necessary. This class is suitable for anyone who has an interest in in developing independent and life time lasting yoga practice. Students who are new to yoga are recomanded to attend our Yoga for Beginners first.
Vinyasa Flow Classes
Vinyasa is a style of yoga that links poses and postures together in a flowing sequence, synchronised with breath. In a vinyasa class expect to move with a little more pace through
the poses which can be taught in any particular order with an ashtanga influence.
Vinyasa is great if you enjoy diversity and like to keep moving. Each class will include a variety of sequences focussing on different areas of the body and through controlled breath can help calm the mind. Vinyasa is often referred to as a moving meditation.
Restorative Yoga Classes
Restorative yoga aims to achieve balance between physical, mental and emotional state with the aid of comfortable props such as blankets, bolsters, blocks & belts. Restorative yoga is the perfect complement to the more dynamic classes we teach at the Yoga Loft. This is a class for moving back into balance supporting nervous system health and well-being. Restorative Yoga helps to down-shift the physiology of the body where deep relaxation can occur. This class allows time and space to notice patterns of holding and release them through breath, awareness and presence. This style of practicing yoga is indispensable for nervous system awareness! It also supports better sleep, helps manage stress levels and is ideal for those recovering from illness.
Restorative yoga/Fundamentals
This class offers a tangible tool to cultivate stillness through some fundamental movements and breath. Learn about the range of movement, how to create more space in our muscles, lengthen the tissues ,cultivating the power of awareness. This class is designed to help with day to day discomfort in back, hips, shoulders, through sequence of stretches.
Somatic Embodied yoga
Somatic Embodied Yoga is about cultivating a greater sensory awareness to the body. The aim is to deepen your relationship to the sacred vessel you have been given; whilst simultaneously regulating, understanding and improving your stress response and nervous system. A variety of therapeutic movement session, soothing, grounding and connecting, Suitable for all levels.
Physio Led Pilates
Class sizes are small to ensure individuals receive suitable supervision and guidance throughout with exercises being modified to the individual. These can be adapted to all levels and individual needs to aid your recovery or strengthening process.
Prior to starting class, a Physiotherapy Pilates specific assessment may be required to teach the basic Pilates positions & correct pelvic floor activation, ensuring everyone starts with the same level of knowledge and core awareness. This is also a chance to discuss any concerns or worries & I get to know all of my students on a 1:1 basis.
What makes me stand out from other teachers?
I have a wide physiotherapy and evidence based knowledge base and a great understanding of strength & conditioning which can be applied to Pilates. I am passionate about improving peoples daily activities or getting people back to doing what they love.
I like to vary my classes and include full body strengthening. I’m always on hand personally if anyone’s struggling with an exercise or needs adapting & more importantly I try and make the classes fun and enjoyable. I always encourage students to give me a shout & use me!
